Tales from the Dark Side: Drafting Issues from a Fiduciary's Perspective | Joint Council Meeting | The City Club | 5:00 - 7:30 p.m.

Date: Tuesday, April 25, 2017
Time: 5:00pm - 7:30pm
Location: The City Club of Washington | 555 13th Street, N.W., Concourse Level, Washington, D.C.
Speaker: Benjamin H. Pruett

This is our annual event with three area estate planning councils: Northern Virginia Estate Planning Council (NVEPC); Washington, DC, Estate Planning Council (WDCEPC); and Estate Planning Council of Montgomery, MD.  It’s a great opportunity to network with other estate planning professionals, as well hear from an outstanding speaker, Ben Pruett.

Program Description and Benefits:
Whether or not estate tax law changes, most clients will still be creating trusts during their lifetimes and under their wills. Benjamin Pruett, Esq. will identify many “boilerplate” provisions of trusts that may not be apparent to the client, his or her advisors, or the attorney drafting the document, but will be of critical importance to the Trustee administering the Trust. He also will discuss: (i) obtaining maximum flexibility for long-term trusts, (ii) avoiding potential problems and unintended restrictions, and (iii) recent trust law developments.

Speaker Biography:
Ben Pruett is Fiduciary Counsel for Bessemer Trust. Prior to joining Bessemer in 2006, he practiced law in Atlanta, Georgia for 18 years, most recently with King & Spalding, LLP.  Mr. Pruett is a Fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel (ACTEC), where he serves on both the Business Planning Committee and the State Laws Committee, and is also active in the American Bar Association’s Real Property, Trust & Estate Law Section. He is a frequent speaker at continuing education programs across the country, including the Heckerling Institute on Estate Planning.
